Why Choose The Hospital Group?

We are the UK’s largest and most trusted weight loss and cosmetic surgery provider.

Reaching your weight loss goal can prove difficult, and we know that every weight loss journey is different. If you are struggling to lose weight and have exhausted endless diets and exercise regimes, weight loss surgery could be the answer.

Weight loss surgery is a procedure that helps to control your appetite and reduce your portion sizes, meaning that sticking to a healthy eating plan is easier. There are various weight loss surgery options available, all designed to help you achieve your weight loss goals, lead an active lifestyle, and reduce the risk of obesity-related health problems.

The Hospital Group offers a variety of weight loss surgery solutions. Our gastric band, gastric bypass, gastric sleeve and conversion surgeries will support you in losing weight and encourage a healthier lifestyle. And, of course, our support doesn’t end with the surgery itself – thanks to our dedicated surgeons, nurses, dietitians and surgeon assistants, we are on hand to offer the very best guidance and expertise before, during, and long after your treatment.

Who is suitable for weight loss surgery?

You will need to meet certain criteria to qualify for weight loss treatment, and one of them is your BMI (body mass index). Your BMI iyour body mass divided by the square of your height. Weight loss surgery can be considered for most people who have a BMI of over 40.

If you have an obesity-related condition such as type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, sleep apnoea, joint problems, osteoarthritis, asthma or cardiovascular disease, you might be considered for surgery if your BMI is between 30 and 40. Howeverevery person is different and there are several factors which need taken into account, such as your family history and any previous attempts at weight loss. These can all be discussed during a free consultation with our weight loss specialists.

Life after weight loss surgery

We’re here to help and advise you at every stage of your weight loss journeywith regular appointments, dedicated specialist dietitians and nurses forming part of your aftercare package. Life after weight loss surgery can result in a happier and healthier lifestyle, and many of our patients report overall improvement in their wellbeing. However, you will need to make dietary changes to reach your long-term weight loss goals and improve your health.

You will be advised to follow a specific diet to prepare for the surgery itself. Following the procedureour dieticians will advise you on the gradual progression through liquids, pureed food and soft food before eventually moving back onto solid foods. The timeframe for each phase can vary but most patients are able to progress onto solid food after 4 weeks.

Recovery time can take between 1 to 8 weeks, depending on the procedure you have. During your recovery period, some patients experience significant weight loss, and you may find that obesity-related health problems could have already started to improve.

It is important to remember that weight-loss surgery is a helping hand and a tool to make sticking to a healthy eating plan easier, rather than a quick fix. You will need to remain fully committed over the long term to successfully improve your health.

Risks of weight loss surgery

Just like any kind of surgery, weight loss surgery carries some risks. Some of the complications can happen immediately after surgery, while others might occur after time has passed. Some of the complications that can occur include: Gastric band slipping out of place

Weight loss surgery frequently asked questions

How much does weight loss surgery cost?
The cost of your weight loss surgery includes the surgery itself, your surgeon fees, anaesthetist fees, medication, your hospital stay as well as the aftercare package you choose.
Do i need weight loss surgery or a cosmetic fat loss procedure?
Liposuction is generally suitable for patients who have stubborn areas of fat that are resistant to diet or exercise, but it does not contribute to overall weight loss. Whereas weight loss surgery is a long-term weight loss solution, when conventional dieting and exercise methods have not been successful, weight loss surgery could help in achieving your health and weight loss goals.
How long does it take from consultation to surgery?
The amount of time between consultation to surgery will vary from person to person as it depends on your suitability and medical requirements as well as surgeon availability. However, there must be a minimum of 14 days following consultation before surgery.
How can i prepare for my weight loss surgery consultation?
At your consultation you will meet your dedicated patient advisor who will be with you at every stage of your journey. To prepare for your consultation, we would recommend that you do some initial research such as browsing our website, so you understand each weight loss procedure. We would advise that you bring the following things to your consultation: a photo ID, a list of any medication you take, your GP details, details of any specialist doctors you see and of course, any questions you may have.
