What are dermal fillers?

If you are looking to smooth fine lines and wrinkles, plump your skin, or augment your lips, then dermal filler injections could be the choice for you. There are a variety of high quality, hyaluronic-based dermal fillers available, and achieve the look you want through creating a bespoke treatment package

Dermal fillers could help to restore a more youthful look if you have noticed that your lines and wrinkles are quite deep, or sunken cheeks are making your face look tired. They can be used to give you a more contoured effect by creating the illusion of a stronger bone structure. Fillers under the skin can also fill out and define lips, and give a more youthful appearance overall

Dermal fillers will slowly break down through your body’s own natural processes, but can last from 6 months up to 2 years.

What are the benefits of dermal fillers?

Dermal fillers will give you instant results. The treatment can give you definition and contouring by lifting and projecting your cheeks, reshaping your chin and redefining your jawline. Fine lines and wrinkles may also be smoothed out.

Treatment only takes between 30 and 45 minutes and has minimal downtime or side effects, so you could even fit it into a lunch break.

Are there any risks?

It is important to weigh up the risks involved against the benefits that the treatment can bring – just as with all types of medical aesthetic treatment.

Your medical aesthetic practitioner will talk you through any risks and complications, although possible side effects are usually minimal. They include minor unplanned swelling, redness and bruising around the injection site.

Is it right for me?

If would like to enhance a youthful appearance of your face or you are concerned about the signs of ageing, dermal fillers may be the treatment you are looking for.

You may feel like, over time, you have lost the elasticityspring and firmness in your skin, and you might also be looking to contour your jawcheeks or chin, or to plump your lips. You can talk through how to create the look you want with your medical aesthetic practitioner at your free consultation.

FAQ

Dermal Fillers FAQs

More FAQs
What are the advantages of fillers?
The range of fillers we use is suitable for all skin types and requires no pre-treatment skin test. It’s a non-animal, naturally based product, highly purified and biodegradable, and available in a choice of strengths to suit the area being treated. An in-built local anaesthetic offers a less painful experience so there’s no need to use anaesthetic creams. It provides immediate, visible results that last 9-12 months.
How long does fillers treatment take?
The treatment session takes up to half an hour. The injection process itself is 15-20 minutes. You will see the benefit soon after the treatment. The results can last around 6-9 months, sometimes up to a year depending on the individual. With repeated treatments over time, the benefit of fillers can build up so that the effects last longer.
What’s the difference between fillers and wrinkle treatments?
Dermal fillers are designed to mimic the hydrating and lifting effect of your skin’s natural hyaluronic acid, which keeps the skin hydrated and elastic. It fills in and smooths away facial lines and lost volume – this means the static facial lines you can see when your face is still. Wrinkle-relaxing treatments work by relaxing the tiny dynamic muscles that cause frown lines, smoothing out wrinkles for four months or longer.
Are fillers painful?
Injections can cause discomfort even when a very fine needle is used, as is the case with fillers. However, the addition of local anaesthetic improves the overall experience.
What results can I expect from my fillers treatment?
Results generally begin to become visible soon after your treatment. After the first fillers treatment, you should start to notice the softening of facial lines, wrinkles and scars as well as an improvement in lines around the mouth. Some swelling and reddening may appear, which usually fades quite quickly. Modern fillers are soft, safe and non-permanent, lasting for around 6-9 months.
Which treatment is right for me?
We offer a variety of non-surgical treatments, including wrinkle treatments and skin peels, which can be used to complement dermal fillers. One of our aestheticians will discuss your requirements with you and recommend a treatment plan to achieve the best results.
Which facial lines can be treated?
Lines around the eyes (crow’s feet) and forehead lines can be treated, as can the lines around the nose and mouth. Besides filling lines, fillers can also be used to add fullness to lips to enhance a smile or create a subtle pout. They can also be used on the cheeks to add definition and softness to the cheekbones.

Your journey step by step

Your consultation

Your journey with The Hospital Group begins with a consultation with our friendly medical aesthetic practitioners, this may be an Aesthetician, Nurse Practitioner or Doctor.. During this conversation you can talk through why you’re interested in this treatment, how much it costs, if there are finance options available to you, whether you’re suitable for treatment, if you’ll need a one off treatment, or a full course, as well as potential treatment dates.

You can ask our medical aesthetic practitioners any questions as they are extremely knowledgeable and have undertaken extensive training. If you feel ready to proceed, we can carry out a laser patch test (where applicable) and book your first treatment for a date and time that suits you.

The treatment

You can ask your medical aesthetic practitioner any final questions on the day of the treatment. All pre- and post-treatment advice will be discussed prior to the day itself, so you will know exactly what to expect during your treatment, including how long it will take, and how it will feel.

Recovery

For most medical aesthetic treatments, you will be able to leave the clinic as soon as your treatment has been completed, and you should be able to go about your normal day-to-day activities. If you experience any mild discomfort, redness or swelling, this will subside within the following days. Any specific aftercare requirements will be discussed at your consultation.

Aftercare

We are here to support you throughout your medical aesthetics journey, we believe that the highest quality aftercare is just as important as the treatment itself. If you have any questions or concerns at all, you can contact us at any time.
