What is a facial peel?

Facial peels are an increasingly popular skincare solution for men. Using a chemical solution, a facial peel exfoliates the skin, removing the top layer of dead skin cells and allowing new skin cells to be replenished. This means that a new layer of skin can be revealed which looks smoother, younger and fresher than before.

Facial peels for men are particularly beneficial, as they can penetrate through coarse skin and facial hair.

Facial peels are used to treat wrinkles, pigmentation, acne, sun damage and scars. They stimulate cell renewal through accelerated exfoliation which works deep into the layers of the skin to resurface it.

What are the benefits of a facial peel?

The pigmentation caused by sun damage can be targeted through facial peels, as can superficial scarring, and the treatment can also help reduce the appearance of wrinkles. In addition, it is effective in treating acne and congestion through removing build up on the skin, which can then help your home skincare products penetrate deeper when applied to the face

Chemical facial peels provide enhanced exfoliation which leads to glowing, healthy skin. At your consultation with us, depending on your skin type, we may recommend a course of chemical peels so that you can achieve your optimal results.

Are there any risks?

It is important to weigh up the risks involved against the benefits that the treatment can bring – just as with all types of medical aesthetic treatment.

Facial Peel FAQs

More FAQs
How much does a facial peel cost?
Every patient is unique, and so the cost of our facial peels will depend on the type of chemical peel that is best for your individual skin type. Your medical aesthetic practitioner will discuss your options and the cost of your procedure at your free consultation.
How long does a facial peel take?
A facial peel treatment will generally be carried out in around 30 minutes.
How do facial peels work?
During a facial peel, a chemical solution deeply exfoliates the skin on the face which removes the top layers of dead skin cells, allowing for cell renewal.
What skin conditions can facial peels help with?
Pigmentation, acne, scarring, sun damage and wrinkles can all be addressed by a chemical peel.
What results can I expect from a skin peel?
After a facial peel, you should expect to have smoother, healthy, glowing skin.
Which facial peel is right for me?
We provide a range of medical formulation chemical peel treatments of varying strengths. Each is safe and designed to penetrate and exfoliate to a particular depth. These range from light peels such as Epionce refresh, Obagi Blue Radiance and Glycolic right through to deep phenol peels that can help to reduce facial wrinkles or treat sun damaged skin.
What is involved in a facial peel treatment?
Each peel has a different strength of active ingredients and therefore the treatment itself varies. Generally, the treatment involves the preparation of the area to be treated and the careful application of the chemical peel. It will be removed after a specific time and then a cream may then be applied.
How long will I need to recover?
Some chemical peels are single skin peel treatments and involve no down time. Others require a course of treatments, some of which have little or no down time, others with a maximum of 7 to 10 day recovery period. You should always use sunblock post-treatment, as your skin can be quite sensitive. After any chemical peel you can leave the clinic as soon as you feel comfortable to do so.

Your journey step by step

Your consultation

Your journey with The Hospital Group begins with a consultation with our friendly medical aesthetic practitioners, this may be an Aesthetician, Nurse Practitioner or Doctor. During this conversation you can talk through why you’re interested in this treatment, how much it costs, whether you’re suitable for treatment, if you’ll need a one off treatment, or a full course, as well as potential treatment dates.

You can ask our medical aesthetic practitioners any questions as they are extremely knowledgeable and have undertaken extensive training. If you feel ready to proceed, we can carry out a laser patch test (where applicable) and book your first treatment for a date and time that suits you.

The treatment

You can ask your medical aesthetic practitioner any final questions on the day of the treatment. All pre- and post-treatment advice will be discussed prior to the day itself, so you will know exactly what to expect during your treatment, including how long it will take, and how it will feel.

For most medical aesthetic treatments, you will be able to leave the clinic as soon as your treatment has been completed, and you should be able to go about your normal day-to-day activities. If you experience any mild discomfort, redness or swelling, this will subside within the following days. Any specific aftercare requirements will be discussed at your consultation.

We are here to support you throughout your medical aesthetics journey, we believe that the highest quality aftercare is just as important as the treatment itself. If you have any questions or concerns at all, you can contact us at any time.
