What is microneedling?

Microneedling is a minimally invasive treatment that encourages your skin to produce more elastin and collagen – helping you achieve glowing, fresh, collagen-rich skin.

The treatment uses tiny needles to create small micro punctures in the skin, which is followed by the application of a topical skin solution to treat ageing, scarring or pigmentation. The skin will then begin to heal itself and during this process, new cells are produced.

What are the benefits of microneedling?

Microneedling can combat stretch marks, acne scarring, ageing, pigmentation, sun damage. It is also effective in improving its tone and texture and rejuvenating the skin.

The procedure stimulates the production of new skin cells, meaning your skin will look healthier and have a more even appearance

Are there any risks?

It is important to weigh up the risks involved against the benefits that the treatment can bring – just as with all types of medical aesthetic treatment.

Your medical aesthetic practitioner will talk you through any risks and complications, although possible side effects are usually minimal. They include flaking skin, redness, and tenderness.

Is it right for me?

Skin conditions which are not improving with skin care products could be suitable for microneedling. Your medical aesthetician will assess your skin to see if the treatment is right for you, microneedling can be used for most skin types and conditions.

You might need a collagen boost from the inside if your skin is suffering from pigmentation, acne scarring, or sun damage that needs breaking down. Microneedling is also suitable in achieving a more even skin tone and if you want to refresh dull and tired skin.

FAQ

Microneedling FAQs

More FAQs
Are microneedling results permanent?
Microneedling isn’t a permanent solution because the skin is always changing, but depending on the skin issues you have, multiple treatments can be performed to achieve the desired result.
Is microneedling painful?
Microneedling isn’t overly painful and the use of a topical anaesthetic will help to manage any discomfort.
How many microneedling treatments will I need?
The number of treatments you need will be based on your skin concerns. As a guide, if you have tired and dull skin, one treatment would be effective in restoring brightness. But if you have deep acne scarring, multiple treatments will be required to see results.
What topical solutions are used?
At The Hospital Group, we use the c.prof range of products from mesoestetic which has treatments for depigmentation, anti-ageing and scarring.
What skin conditions can microneedling treat?
Our microneedling treatment can help to improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, reduce acne scarring and help treat hyperpigmentation resulting from sun damage.
Where can microneedling be used?
The microneedling treatment can be used across all areas of the face including the forehead, cheeks, chin, nose and under eye area.
Are there any side effects?
Following your microneedling treatment, you experience some redness, tenderness to the skin and flaking which can last up to 72 hours, but will subside after this. We recommend using sun protection following your treatment and do not exfoliate as this may irritate the skin.
Can I go back to normal activity following treatment?
After treatment no make-up should be worn for the first 48 hours. For the first 14 days, you should avoid using any hair removal products, waxing, using sunbeds, swimming or self-tan products.

Next steps

Your journey step by step

Your consultation

Your journey with The Hospital Group begins with a consultation with our friendly medical aesthetic practitioners, this may be an Aesthetician, Nurse Practitioner or Doctor. During this conversation you can talk through why you’re interested in this treatment, how much it costs, whether you’re suitable for treatment, if you’ll need a one off treatment, or a full course, as well as potential treatment dates.

You can ask our medical aesthetic practitioners any questions as they are extremely knowledgeable and have undertaken extensive training. If you feel ready to proceed, we can carry out a laser patch test (where applicable) and book your first treatment for a date and time that suits you.

The treatment

You can ask your medical aesthetic practitioner any final questions on the day of the treatment. All pre- and post-treatment advice will be discussed prior to the day itself, so you will know exactly what to expect during your treatment, including how long it will take, and how it will feel.

Recovery

For most medical aesthetic treatments, you will be able to leave the clinic as soon as your treatment has been completed, and you should be able to go about your normal day-to-day activities. If you experience any mild discomfort, redness or swelling, this will subside within the following days. Any specific aftercare requirements will be discussed at your consultation.

Aftercare

We are here to support you throughout your medical aesthetics journey, we believe that the highest quality aftercare is just as important as the treatment itself. If you have any questions or concerns at all, you can contact us at any time.
