What is CoolSculpting?

CoolSculpting, also knowns as cryolipolysis, is a non-surgical treatment which uses cold to reduce or remove fat cells in targeted body areas by freezing them -11 degrees Celsius. This destroys the cells and, through time, they are eliminated by the body’s own natural processes

The procedure only affects the specific areas treated, and the advanced technology used by CoolSculpting treatment means that there is no requirement to have any kind of anaesthetic or surgery. In addition, there is no downtime required after the treatment

What are the benefits of CoolSculpting?

During the 35-45 minutes that a CoolSculpting session takes, unwanted areas of fat are reduced and removed. The results will start to become apparent within the first few weeks after the procedure, with the final results showing at around 12 weeks. CoolSculpting permanently destroys the fat cells in a particular area, so they will not return. With no recovery time required, you are able to continue with your usual daily routine following treatment.

There is no need to worry about needles or anaesthetic with a fat freezing treatment, and all you will feel will be a mild tingling and numbness while you are having the procedure. CoolSculpting is suitable for both men and women and can be used to treat areas including the thighs, buttocks, stomach, back, flanks and chin.

Are there any risks?

It is important to weigh up the risks involved against the benefits that the treatment can bring – just as with all types of medical aesthetic treatment.

FAQ

CoolSculpting FAQs

More FAQs
What’s the difference between SculpSure and Coolsculpting?
While CoolSculpting and SculpSure treatments achieve the same goal – removing fat - the way that this is achieved differs. CoolSculpting removes the fat cells through freezing, and SculpSure removes the fat cells through heat. Coolsculpting treatment takes longer than SculpSure. Most areas of the body will take 35-45 minutes to complete, while SculpSure will take approximately 25 minutes for most areas of the body. Coolsculpting numbs the skin, so the procedure is not painful. It can be the better choice for anyone wishing to remove larger areas of fat. SculpSure uses heat without hurting the skin.
How does CoolSculpting work?
During CoolSculpting, areas of fat are cooled to -11 degrees Celsius using state-of-the-art technology. The cold kills the fat cells in the targeted area without affecting any surrounding tissue. Through its natural processes, your body will then naturally remove these treated fat cells from your body.
Who is suitable for CoolSculpting?
At your consultation, your medical aesthetic practitioner will detail your medical history so that they are able to determine if CoolSculpting will be right for you. In general, though, CoolSculpting treatment is suitable for people who have stubborn areas of fat that refuse to shift through diet and exercise.
How many CoolSculpting treatments will I need?
You will be given detailed advice regarding the number of CoolSculpting treatments you will require at your consultation, but as a guide this depends on which areas are to be treated and the size of the area/s of fat that you are seeking to reduce. For example, treatment on the stomach may take longer than chin fat, as it’s a larger surface area and the fat will be denser.
What is the recovery time for CoolSculpting?
CoolSculpting does not require any recovery time, so you will be able to go about your daily activities straight after the procedure.
What is fat freezing?
This is a treatment which involves using a specialist machine to cool areas of fat to -11 degrees Celsius. This safely kills fat cells in the targeted area, which are then naturally processed by your body. CoolSculpting is a non-invasive, non-surgical weight-loss method that involves no needles or anaesthetic – so you can carry on with your day-to-day life straight after treatment.
Does fat freezing work?
Many people wonder does fat freezing really work on stubborn areas? And the answer is yes - this cold freeze fat loss method is an effective way to get rid of fat that won’t shift through normal diet and exercise. The average weight loss for CoolSculpting varies from patient to patient, but the process can provide as much as a 27% reduction of fat.
Is fat freezing treatment safe?
Around the world, more than seven million CoolSculpting treatments have been performed and 52 peer-reviewed papers have assessed its ability to deliver effective and safe treatment. The applicator contains a sensor that automatically shuts down the system if it detects that your skin has dropped below -11 degrees Celsius, ensuring each fat freezing treatment is safe. As with any procedure, there are always potential CoolSculpting risks, however these will be explained in full during your consultation.
What’s the difference between surgical lipo and fat freeze treatment?
Many patients ask us what the difference between lipo and fat freeze treatments are. Essentially, liposuction is a surgical procedure that’s carried out under general anaesthetic, and requires patients to miss up to a week of work to recover from their surgery. Liposuction patients also need to wear compression garments, sometimes for several weeks. Unlike lipo, fat freeze treatments are non-invasive and involve no needles or anaesthesia, and most patients don’t need to take any time off work.
If I have CoolSculpting, how long will it take?
If you choose to have CoolSculpting, how long it takes to complete will depend on the size of the treatment area. To give you a rough idea, fat freezing one area of the body takes an average of 35-45 minutes, though this may be more or less depending on the area being treated. If you want to treat several parts of your body in the same session, such as CoolSculpting your arms, stomach and back, this can take anywhere between one and three hours. As you can’t treat the same area more than once in a session, you may require more than one visit.
Who is suitable for CoolSculpting?
You may be suitable for CoolSculpting in our UK clinics if you have small, stubborn pockets of fat that seem resistant to exercise. However, at your free consultation we’ll ask more questions about your areas of concern, medical history, and why you want the fat freezing treatment, to make sure that it’s the most suitable procedure for you.
How many fat freezing treatments will I need?
The number of fat freezing treatments you need will depend on the area you’re treating and the size of the fatty build-up that you’re trying to reduce. For example, chin fat freezing may take less time than CoolSculpting the stomach, because it’s a smaller surface area. We’ll be able to give you more detailed advice and guidance once you have been assessed at your free consultation.
Are CoolSculpting results permanent?
CoolSculpting and weight loss go hand in hand, as the fat cells destroyed by the machine will not come back. Over a period of three weeks to six months, they are naturally processed and absorbed by your body’s lymphatic system. If you maintain a balanced diet and exercise regularly, the results of your fat freezing sessions will be maximised. However, if you follow a poor diet and move less, there is no reason why fat could not build up in the same areas again (this is in extreme cases).
Which areas of my body does CoolSculpting work for?
CoolSculpting can target fat in many areas of the body. Whether you’d like to freeze belly fat, love handles or stubborn areas on your back, or whether you’re interested in CoolSculpting your face, neck, thighs or another area, our experts are here to help you. During your consultation, you can chat through any areas you’d like to target, and your patient advisor will create a bespoke treatment plan in line with your needs.
Can you drive after CoolSculpting?
Yes, you can drive after CoolSculpting treatment. There is no recovery period needed following fat freezing, meaning you can go about your normal day to day activities once your procedure has finishehttp://transforminglives.bbpdev.com/admin/pages/edit/show/96d.
Are there any CoolSculpting risks?
As with all types of cosmetic surgery and aesthetic treatments, there are some CoolSculpting risks to be aware of. After the treatment, you may have some slight bruising, tingling or numbing in the treated area, and you may also notice some redness of the skin. These CoolSculpting side effects will ease off fairly quickly – usually within two or three days.

Your journey step by step

Your consultation

Your journey with The Hospital Group begins with a consultation with our friendly medical aesthetic practitioners, this may be an Aesthetician, Nurse Practitioner or Doctor. During this conversation you can talk through why you’re interested in this treatment, how much it costs, whether you’re suitable for treatment, if you’ll need a one off treatment, or a full course, as well as potential treatment dates.

You can ask our medical aesthetic practitioners any questions as they are extremely knowledgeable and have undertaken extensive training. If you feel ready to proceed, we can carry out a laser patch test (where applicable) and book your first treatment for a date and time that suits you.

The treatment

You can ask your medical aesthetic practitioner any final questions on the day of the treatment. All pre- and post-treatment advice will be discussed prior to the day itself, so you will know exactly what to expect during your treatment, including how long it will take, and how it will feel.

Recovery

For most medical aesthetic treatments, you will be able to leave the clinic as soon as your treatment has been completed, and you should be able to go about your normal day-to-day activities. If you experience any mild discomfort, redness or swelling, this will subside within the following days. Any specific aftercare requirements will be discussed at your consultation.

Aftercare

We are here to support you throughout your medical aesthetics journey, we believe that the highest quality aftercare is just as important as the treatment itself. If you have any questions or concerns at all, you can contact us at any time.
