About the surgeryWhat a thigh lift involves and who it suits

What is a thigh lift?

After losing weight you may find that you have loose skin and/or fat on your thighs which you are unable to shift through exercise. This can cause certain mobility issues, as well as potentially affecting your body confidence. Thigh lift surgery, also called thighplasty, aims to achieve more aesthetically pleasing and firmer thighs.

Thigh lifts achieve this by reducing extra skin, removing extra fat, and tightening and smoothing surrounding tissue. Many people find they are able to wear a wider range of clothing after surgery.

What are the benefits of a thigh lift?

After having a thigh lift, you can expect a more proportionate shape and smoother looking skin, which may make clothes shopping easier. You can wear clothes that are more figure revealing, as well as a greater variety of clothing styles.

Are there any risks?

All surgical procedures pose a potential risk, and it is important know what these are before you go ahead so that you can weigh them up against the benefits your procedure could bring. During your consultations you will talk through these potential complications and you can ask any questions that you have about them.

As a guide, risks include minor asymmetries of scars, pain, infections, bleeding, blood clots, numbness, residual bulges and altered skin sensations.

Is it right for me?

A thigh lift procedure may be right for you if you are looking to restore the youthful contours of the lower body and you are close to your ideal weight already. This procedure should not be seen as weight loss surgery.

You would be an ideal candidate if you have excess soft tissue in the inner or outer thighs which you have not been able to shift through exercise. In order to maintain the results, we’d recommend leading a healthy lifestyle following the procedure – with exercise and a good diet. As ever, it is helpful to have an optimistic outlook and be emotionally ready for surgery.

Your journey step by step

  1. 1

    Your first appointment

    Your journey with The Hospital Group begins with a free telephone consultation with our friendly surgeon assistants. During this conversation you can talk through why you are interested in surgery, how much it costs, how much recovery time you will need, and potential surgery dates. Whenever you decide to book a surgery date, you can secure it for a minimum refundable deposit of £500.

    If you would like to proceed, we will book your surgical consultation.

  2. 2

    Your surgical consultation

    During this consultation you will talk about your goals for surgery and go through your medical history to ascertain whether you are a suitable candidate for this procedure. You will also discuss the results you might expect, as well as the possible risks and complications of surgery. Our specialist surgeons are extremely knowledgeable, so they can answer any questions you might have.

    If you feel you would like to go ahead, you will then be referred to a clinic nurse for pre-operative assessments and tests.

  3. 3

    The surgery

    You will see your surgeon on the day of your surgery so that you can talk through any final questions and read through the consent form. The whole surgical team will be introduced to you before heading into theatre for the procedure.

    The specifics of the surgery will be discussed prior to the day – you will find out how long it will take, the types of anaesthetics used, and they will talk you through the procedure itself.

    Recovery

    The surgeon will let you know whether you will need to stay in the hospital overnight. You might feel swollen and tender for a while, but this is completely normal and should settle fairly quickly. We’ll provide any pain relief you need whilst you’re in hospital.

    Your nurse will call you once you get home to make sure you feel okay and book you in for your post-operative review in the clinic when needed. We’ll also give you our 24/7 patient helpline number so that you can speak to a member of the clinical team at any time.

    Aftercare

    At The Hospital Group, we offer a full package of aftercare support with all our cosmetic surgery procedures to give you complete peace of mind. How much does a thigh lift cost?
Costs can vary, as every patient is different. Each treatment is specifically tailored to your individual needs. During your initial consultation your surgeon assistant will be able to provide you with the cost of your procedure.
Incisions are made along the inner thighs and the excess skin is carefully removed, before the skin is stitched into its new shape. If required, liposuction can also be used to remove excess fat and/or help streamline the shape of the thighs.
Thigh lift surgery takes around two hours and is performed under general anaesthetic, so you will need to stay in hospital overnight after your surgery.
Recovery time varies from person to person. We usually advise you to take two weeks off work and avoid lifting or driving for four weeks after your thigh lift procedure.
There will be some visible scarring following surgery, but this will be minimised as much as possible. Over time, any scars will fade and become less noticeable.
As with all surgical procedures, there are some risks attached, but we fully explain these to you so you can feel as confident and reassured as possible before going ahead.
