A male chest reduction, also known as gynaecomastia surgery, is a cosmetic procedure designed to reduce fatty tissue in the chest area, commonly referred to as “man boobs”. The surgery aims to contour the chest, creating a more masculine, natural appearance.
Our experienced surgeons provide three different types of chest reduction surgery. You can discuss these during your free consultation. Liposuction can be also be used, and on some occasions, skin and glandular tissue will be removed to achieve the finest result.
Gynaecomastia is an enlargement or surplus amount of breast tissue in males. Most often, it is caused by male oestrogen levels being too high, or are imbalanced with testosterone levels. Weight gain can also be a contributing factor to the size of the male chest area, which despite diet and exercise, sometimes cannot always be reduced naturally.
The results of the surgery will leave you with a flatter, firmer and more contoured chest area once the excess fat has been removed. Results are immediate and with a healthy lifestyle, can be maintained long-term.
The effect of being happier with how you look cannot be overestimated - our patients tell us that, by looking better on the outside, they feel better inside and their self-esteem and confidence is boosted.
All surgical procedures pose a potential risk, and it is important know what these are before you go ahead so that you can weigh them up against the benefits your procedure could bring. During your consultations you will talk through these potential complications and you can ask any questions that you have about them.
As a guide, these may include bleeding, infections, bruising, numbness and scars.
The growth in fatty tissue in the chest area can be due to gynaecomastia caused by a rise in oestrogen levels.
An imbalance in hormones can occur with weight gain and age, your surgeon may recommend weight loss; but if your larger chest is due to hormone imbalance, weight loss alone will be ineffective and surgery may be required.
The Hospital Group is a responsible provider of cosmetic surgery, so we understand that each procedure is different and tailored to your requirements and individual needs. At your free consultation, your surgeon assistant will be able to discuss the surgery with you and let you know the cost.
