What is a buttock lift?

You might find that the skin on your buttock changes after significant weight loss. You may notice that it becomes loose and starts to sag. Working out should help to strengthen and improve the tone of your buttock muscles, but you are likely to find that no amount of exercise can fix excess skin that has lost its elasticity.

After going through the effort of losing weight, it can be disappointing not to have the shape you had hoped for. Many people opt for surgery to help tighten those areas of the body most affected by it. After having a buttock lift, you should achieve a more contoured and smoother shape, which may improve your self-confidence, and open up more options when choosing your clothes.

During a buttock lift the extra skin is reduced, tissue is tightened and smoothed, and extra fat is removed. Following the procedure, your buttocks should look more toned and defined.

What are the benefits of a buttock lift?

Your excess fat and skin are removed during a buttock lift, with further definition being achieved using liposuction when required. The procedure should result in a tighter and more toned appearance.

Whilst the results of a buttock lift are usually long lasting, you should limit your weight fluctuation following surgery. If the skin is stretched again through weight gain, then you may need additional surgery to tighten the area once more.

Are there any risks?

All surgical procedures pose a potential risk, and it is important know what these are before you go ahead so that you can weigh them up against the benefits your procedure could bring. During your consultations you will talk through these potential complications and you can ask any questions that you have about them.

As a guide, they may include pain, infections, scars bleeding, blood clots, numbness and changes in sensation.

Is it right for me?

If you want to bring a more toned and defined shape to your buttocks then you might be considering this surgery. Do not forget that this procedure is not a weight loss surgery – it is a way to bring further definition and tone to your buttocks area. As such you should already be close to your ideal weight to be considered for surgery. Your expert surgeon will assess whether or not you have got enough loose skin and elasticity to allow for a good outcome.

You should be generally fit and healthy, and if you are a smoker you will need to stop smoking before and after surgery.

FAQ

Buttock Lift FAQs

More FAQs
Can you have a buttock lift after weight loss?
Yes, many men choose to have a buttock lift after substantial weight loss because they want to bring more tone and definition to the area when the skin has become loose.
How much does a buttock lift cost?
The price of a buttock lift varies. Everyone is different and has their own individual requirements. You will get a personal quote for how much your buttock lift will cost at your consultation. We offer finance options, so you can spread out the cost of your procedure if you would rather do this than pay for it in one lump sum.
What does a buttock lift involve?
Your surgeon will make an incision around the buttocks area to remove excess skin and pull the remaining skin taut. If required, liposuction can also be used to take out excess fat and/or help streamline the shape of the buttocks.
How long does a buttock lift surgery take?
A buttock lift is performed under general anaesthetic and will take around 2 to 3 hours. After your surgery you may need to stay in hospital for the period of time specified by your surgeon.
When can I return to work?
Depending on what you do, we would usually advise you to take around 2 weeks off work and avoid driving or lifting for at least 4 weeks.
Will I have scarring?
There will be some visible scarring following surgery, but this will be minimised by keeping the incision lines within natural contours. Over time, any scars should fade.

Your journey step by step

Your first appointment

Your journey with The Hospital Group begins with a free telephone consultation with our friendly surgeon assistants. During this conversation you can talk through why you are interested in surgery, how much it costs, the finance options available to you, how much recovery time you will need, and potential surgery dates. Whenever you decide to book a surgery date, you can secure it for a minimum refundable deposit of £500.

If you would like to proceed, we will book your surgical consultation.

Your surgical consultation

During this consultation you will talk about your goals for surgery and go through your medical history to ascertain whether you are a suitable candidate for this procedure. You will also discuss the results you might expect, as well as the possible risks and complications of surgery. Our specialist surgeons are extremely knowledgeable, so they can answer any questions you might have.

If you feel you would like to go ahead, you will then be referred to a clinic nurse for pre-operative assessments and tests.

The surgery

You will see your surgeon on the day of your surgery so that you can talk through any final questions and read through the consent form. The whole surgical team will be introduced to you before heading into theatre for the procedure.

The specifics of the surgery will be discussed prior to the day – you will find out how long it will take, the types of anaesthetics used, and they will talk you through the procedure itself.

Recovery

The surgeon will let you know whether you will need to stay in the hospital overnight. You might feel swollen and tender for a while, but this is completely normal and should settle fairly quickly. We’ll provide any pain relief you need whilst you’re in hospital.

Your nurse will call you once you get home to make sure you feel okay and book you in for your post-operative review in the clinic when needed. We’ll also give you our 24/7 patient helpline number so that you can speak to a member of the clinical team at any time.

Aftercare

At The Hospital Group, we offer a full package of aftercare support with all our cosmetic surgery procedures to give you complete peace of mind. You’ll benefit from the following aftercare: unlimited post-op appointments with a member of our clinical team whenever you need them, surgical cover for 2 years – revision surgery where clinically indicated, additional days’ stay in hospital when needed, additional medication and dressings at no extra cost, and emergency telephone support which you can use at any time.
