When Lauren would change for PE at secondary school, she started to notice that she wasn’t developing the same ‘assets’ as her friends were. She’d always hoped that her breasts would grow more later on, but as time went by she had accepted that they just weren’t going to be the size she wanted naturally.
She says, “When I say I was flat-chested, I really mean it – there was nothing to me at all. As I got older, I became even more upset about it. I’d never wear a bikini on holiday, always opting for a big, thick, padded swimsuit and kimono instead to cover up.
“When I was 18, my mum could see that it was affecting my mental health and body confidence, so she suggested we go to see the doctor. They agreed that the best thing for me was to have implants, but added that I’d need to pay for these privately.
My mum, like all parents, saw me as beautiful the way I was, and suggested I should wait until I was a bit older – perhaps I would continue to develop, and having children later down the line would also mean that my body shape would change.”
When Lauren was 21, she gave birth to a beautiful baby boy, and her mum was absolutely right – her breasts did get bigger. Finally she had a bust size that she loved! But, inevitably, as her son got older, her chest reduced to the 32A cup size she’d always been.
“I would get really upset on nights out – there just weren’t the right clothes available for me. I’d be a size 8-10 in tops, but they would just hang awkwardly around my top half.” In 2020, Lauren decided that it was time to take action and get the breast enlargement that she’d wanted for over 10 years. She restarted her research in earnest.
Lauren explains, “I’m a bit of a worrier, and it takes me a long time to research anything so that I’m sure I’m making the right decision. I’m in the beauty industry and had heard a few of my clients say really great things about The Hospital Group, so when I saw them on my Google searches, I was already familiar with the company. I had read up about a surgeon that I wanted to carry out my surgery and was delighted when I found out that he worked for The Hospital Group. It made my life so much easier – I was able to use the surgeon I wanted so much, and the company I’d heard wonderful things about.”
The process started over the Covid-19 lockdown, so her first steps were carried out over the phone with a surgeon assistant, followed by a free surgeon consultation via video link.
She recalls, “My surgeon was so kind, and talked me through everything. It all felt very natural and easy. He was professional and honest, and helped me choose the right implants. I didn’t want my breasts to look too big, and so he helped me understand which ones would be best for my body shape. I went from a 32A to a 32D, so they’d feel like a natural enhancement rather than ‘fake boobs’. He gave me lots of support and talked me through things I’d never thought about before. He was clearly very experienced and I was felt at ease the whole way through.”
Lauren remembers that the part she was most frightened of was the thought of being ‘put under’ by general anaesthesia. She continues, “I was so nervous about being put to sleep, but I can honestly say that if I had to go under again for any reason with The Hospital Group I would go back with no worries at all. The hospital team was supportive and kind throughout, and totally took the stress away from the whole process.”
Her recovery was simple and swift. Lauren had been concerned it might be painful, but it was only ever uncomfortable, and she found that easy to manage. “I’m a full-time mum and work full-time too,” she says, “and I was able to get back into normal life much more quickly than I expected. A month after the surgery, I went out for my birthday, and I felt and looked amazing!
“I used to wear really padded bras, with the big chicken fillets inserted, just to fit into an outfit properly. For days after a night out, I’d have cuts on my back because of how tight I would have my underwear to hold the padding in place. Now, to just put on a bra that fits me properly feels so liberating.”
Lauren plans to get married next year and says that she can’t wait to wear a gorgeous backless wedding dress with full confidence.
“My advice for anyone who is thinking about having a breast enlargement is don’t hold back. Just go for it! Life is way too short. I wish I’d done it sooner. It’s changed me completely as a person and given my confidence a real boost. My results are absolutely amazing, and I couldn’t be happier.”
