He is also one of the highest volume arthroplasty surgeons in Birmingham.
After gaining his medical degree, Mr Makrides completed his specialist orthopaedic training in the West Midlands. He subsequently undertook additional advanced training in Trauma and Complex Lower Limb Reconstruction at Oxford University Hospitals, a centre of excellence in orthopaedic research.
Mr Makrides is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in Trauma and Orthopaedics. In 2015, he was appointed Associate Clinical Director for Heart of England NHS Trust. He is also a Clinical Service Lead for University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust.
He has continued his professional development throughout his career, taking specialist courses and attending clinical meetings in order to his knowledge of his specialist field up to date. His ambition is to continue researching and innovating in the field of trauma and orthopaedics, providing safe, patient-centred care through ongoing scientific development and research.
Mr Makrides is an expert in MAKO robotic arthroplasty surgery, innovative technology which helps promote better patient outcomes and satisfaction through a more predictable joint replacement surgical experience. He has presented on orthopaedics at many UK and international conferences and clinical meetings, as well as being published extensively in scientific journals, and is actively involved in a formal teaching program for core surgical trainees in the West Midlands.
